It’s Big Fish Time in Yankeetown!
It is the time of the year that big Black Drum, and big Redfish start moving into the waters around the spoil islands in the Yankeetown area of the Gulf. This makes for some serious drag pulling fun! They are unable to resist biting big live shrimp right now. The larger Black Drum we are catching are in the 30-40lb range! These majestic creatures are so fun to catch, and we make sure to handle them with care, and revive them in the water before releasing them.
Mixed in with the “Biggins”, we are catching slot Redfish and eater size Black Drum for the dinner table. These fish are also fun to catch, and good to eat. Seatrout are still hanging around, but seem to be moving to deeper water due to rising water temps as we approach summer. Flounder are starting to show up, most of them are small, but I am sure we will start finding the keeper size soon. Snook are now making a showing, and I will be rigging rods with heavier leader, using live bait and artificial lures, to target them on upcoming charters.
If you are considering going on a fishing charter, this is a great time of year to do so, due to the rising water temps bringing the bait and the multiple species that eat them, into our beautiful inshore waters. Call me at 352-897-4582 (office #) or call or text me at 561-371-1062 (cell #) to book a trip.
Tip of the Day- find the bait… and find the fish!
I look forward to fishing with you all soon!!!
